Dr. Jennifer and Fernando Velasco

Dr. Jennifer was born and raised in Mt Pleasant and was a Wando High School graduate. After earning a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Auburn University in December 1998, she worked as a software tester and designer for 12 years in Illinois and back in her home state of South Carolina. While in Illinois, she met her husband Fernando, who is originally from Mexico City. In 2010, with tremendous support from Fernando, and many family and friends, Jennifer decided to pursue her dream job of becoming a veterinarian. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia in May 2017.

Dr. Jennifer is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the South Carolina Association of Veterinarians. She has earned a Commitment to Excellence certification from the Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy (CAETA) and is designated as a Certified Peaceful Euthanasia Veterinarian (CPEV).

In 2022, Dr. Jennifer opened Charleston Mobile Vet. She was joined by Fernando on a permanent basis in 2024. They have experienced the joy of having many different pets, but also know the pain and sadness that comes with the loss of each one. They feel that a peaceful passing at home is the last act of kindness a family can give to their pet.

When they are not caring for pets, Dr. Jennifer and Fernando enjoy spending time with family and friends, spending time at the beach, and snuggling with their dogs, Dottie, Poppy, and Chupe. They also have a cat named Mousse, but she's not a snuggler. They have two grown children, Abraham and Carolina.

A Celebration of Life

The peace and comfort of your pet is our top priority. We want to make euthanasia as stress-free as possible for both pets and owners. This generally means that our appointments take longer than they would in a clinic setting. Instead of euthanasia being a cold and scary experience, we strive to make it a celebration of life and to cater to each individual family's wishes as they say goodbye to their pet.

Paw prints are a great way to memorialize a pet but are often done after death. We personally feel it's important to make these, if possible, while a pet is still alive to attach that memory to your keepsake. Paw prints can be made together during the euthanasia appointment, but families are encouraged to make these keepsakes together prior to the appointment if possible.
